Lisa Bushey

Lisa A. Bushey is an award-winning communicator and champion of bold, new ideas around public education. As EVP, Communications, at the American Public Education Foundation, Bushey recruited FOX News Anchor Harris Faulkner to headline its Star-Spangled Banner Movement, supporting an array of projects designed to foster character development, civic engagement and global citizenship among K-12 youth. An Associate Executive Director at the National School Boards Association, she was the primary architect of “Stand Up 4 Public Schools,” a national advocacy campaign around public education that featured basketball legend and business icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jr.; actor and former talk show host Montel Williams; founder of the Khan Academy and “Math Master of the Internet” Sal Khan; and NASA astronaut Barbara Morgan. Bushey, a former K-12 public schools honors student, completed all coursework toward the M.A. in Journalism from UMCP and holds a B.A. in English and History from Dickinson College.
